It's official, as of today, Kyle is cancer free. Scans every 3 months but for now, he's good!
This is a picture of Kyle's legs. It's hard to tell, but what's the most interesting part, if you ask me, is that you can see how the surgeon shaved part of the bone down so the leg will fit better in a prosthesis.
After seeing the surgeon, we spent 3 hours at OrthoPros working on Kyle's leg. Next Tuesday he will get to bring it home!
After some adjusting, Kyle got to test the new Rheo 3 leg and really liked it. Unfortunately he went home with the older Rheo model which was crap, but at least he was walking around.
You wouldn't think walking up and down ramps would be an issue but with a fake leg, it takes some adjustments.
After being at the office 6 hours, we were exhausted. Kyle actually fell asleep.
It's awesome that Olivia could care less about Kyle's leg. Well, she does care, she often asks how it feels and if it is better.
On a walk the other day Kyle and I heard a kid yell, "Come look!" Kyle didn't think anything of it. The kid was calling someone (I assume a sibling) to come look at Kyle. I thought it was funny. Kyle didn't even realize the kid was talking about him.
Today Kyle got to try his new leg! Well, it's an old model knee, and the socket doesn't fit quite right. It was disappointing to not be able to take the leg home. Kyle walked well and I could tell he wanted to try to run. While Kyle took each step, the knee was sending signals to a laptop so the lady could make adjustments and program it. The parallel bars were only 12 feet long so Kyle could really only get 3 strides in then have to turn around. That makes it difficult to see how well he really could be walking on his own.
For some reason my mom is on Chili's mailing list and read about Daddy Daughter night. We happened to have a giftcard so we went. I told Olivia after school about it and she told me I can't go. Kyle said that was silly and I should go. While I drove I told Olivia to pretend I wasn't there. When we arrived she told me to leave. I sat at the bar watching the Olympics happily eating alone. Kyle said they had a great time talking and hanging out. They gave away free pictures and had bags of Valentine's Day stuff for the daughters at each table. Super cute.
This morning we went to see Dr. Ashburn for Olivia's 4 year old check up. She's perfect and he said she needed 4 shots before kindergarten. I said 4 was way too many so 2 now, 2 next year. I had to leave early to go to a memorial service so Kyle stayed with Livi for the shots, which is never fun. The rest of their day together however, was a lot of fun.
After the doctor, Kyle and Livi went to Red Box and rented Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. Next they drove through McDonalds for ice cream. They came home, watched the movie (twice) and ate lunch.
After resting, Kyle and Livi went to the animal shelter. At the doctor's office Kyle asked Livi if she wanted to go ride the ponies and she said "No, I want to look at kitties." After looking at animals, they went to the mall. They first played in the play area, then they played air hockey, next was the photo booth, then the candy store and tried on head accessories.
The most fun though was the bouncy thing. No idea what it's called. Kyle said Olivia loved it.
After they got home Olivia rode her scooter around the backyard.
I got home, made dinner (heated up enchiladas from Cassie), and now we are watching the movie again.
Kyle's been interested in planets and space lately, yes, kinda geeky, and we had been talking about going to the observatory lately so we went. Kyle loves teaching Olivia different things, he's really good at explaining so she understands.
Today was a great day hanging out with Peyton and her family. After some golf (yes, Kyle can still hit a whiffle ball over the house) we played ping pong. Kyle and I got into a super competitive match that went back and forth, and he finally beat me. It's getting really annoying that he's still super athletic with only one leg.
